Our Story

A quiet truth, quantified.

Hi! I’m Amin. I’ve been working in the education sector for the past three years — starting first as a teaching assistant, then completing my PGCE with QTS, and now currently as a tutor. Each role gave me a different vantage point of how students interact with education, but each with a common thread: most students want to do well.

Amin, founder of Egal Tutors

I’m smart sir, I’m only in this class because of my behaviour

I don’t care about this subject

I can’t do this

Whilst studying my PGCE, I was able to see my experiences articulated and explained through educational research — and a paper called ‘Memories of Maths' by John Jennifer E. et al blew me away. The researchers explained how self‑concept, motivation, and locus of control shape attainment. How students with identical situations but different approaches navigate their failures — and how this in turn leads to dramatically different outcomes.

It quantified and legitimised a quiet truth I’d always believed:

Anybody can succeed in Maths given the correct environment — both physically and psychologically.

To provide that haven is what I aim to do at Egal Tutors. Through research-informed strategies, my focus is on improving mathematical attainment while reducing maths anxiety, fostering motivation, and developing a positive mathematical self-concept.
